So many people have anxiety when it comes to tempeh- what IS it? what should I do with it? what does it taste like? These are questions I get ALL THE TIME! There is nothing mysterious or scary about tempeh. It is a healthy fermented soy protein that has a nutty taste and texture and can take on so many yummy marinades and flavors, even bacon! This recipe is for 2 packages of tempeh because its THAT good!
2 packages tempeh, sliced thin, careful not to break apart
2 tbsp maple syrup
2 tbsp tamari
1 tsp liquid smoke
1 tsp cumin
oil, for saute pan
Mix marinade ingredients plus 1 tbsp water and pour over sliced tempeh. Mix around by hand and let tempeh sit in marinade 10 minutes. Heat up a saute pan to medium heat. Add oil and pan fry slices in 3-4 batches. Place on paper towels. Serve warm. (Can be reheated in a 350 oven).
