When I told some of my friends that I was working on making my own household cleaners, they immediately went on the offense- "But no one has the time for that" and "how do you know it works as good as the store bought stuff?" I know that we are born to believe that these big companies do things better than us, but the truth is I believe that the same way a bag of Doritos is worst for our bodies than an apple, I also believe that the toxic cleaners full of so.many.ingredients cannot be as good as something I make at home! Plus. while it does take about 5-10 minutes to make most of these cleaners, they are versatile in what you can use them for to clean and they are generally very inexpensive!
These two recipes are great for your clean out the fridge day! I know that my whole family is very sensitive to smells and if we open the refrigerator door and some offensive smell comes out of there we all start freaking out! This refrigerator deodorizer REALLY WORKS! It stays in my fridge eliminating odors, unlike the open box of baking soda alone.
Refrigerator Cleaner - From the Doterra Website
1 cup white vinegar
2 cups hot water
15 drops lemon essential oil
Combine ingredients in the order listed above into a glass spray bottle. Shake well.
To Use: Shake Well Before Use. Spray inside the refrigerator and scrub and wipe any dirt with a wet cloth. While you can whip this recipe up to clean your fridge, I see no reason why you cannot clean a myriad of other surfaces with it as well! The only surface to stay away from is soft stone, like marble.
1/2 pint glass jar
1 cups baking soda
10-15 drops citrus essential oil (lemon, and orange work very well, either alone or in combination)
Place baking soda in the jar and mix in essential oils. Keep jar open and in the back of the fridge to absorb odors. Stir periodically to release the scent from the essential oils. Replace every 3 months.
